With so many festivals celebrating arts, culture, and cuisine, Scarborough is the place to be this summer. If you’re planning on moving into an apartment at Gold Seal’s Parkway Towers in Scarborough, then you can look forward to a variety of festivals happening close to home. In June, Scarborough is where you’ll find the LUMINOUS Fest, and in August, there’s the Afro-Carib Fest. 1 LUMINOUS Fest
Taking place at Scarborough’s Prairie Drive Park on June 8, LUMINOUS Fest is an all-day family friendly community arts festival celebrating Black Muslim artists. This event will feature musical and spoken word performances, arts-based workshops, vendors, live painting, comedy, a drumming circle, and so much more!
2 Scarborough Food Truck Festival
The Scarborough Food Truck Festival is a fun annual event and fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough. In addition to a variety of food trucks dishing out savoury snacks, this festival, held on June 8 at U of T Scarborough, will also feature interactive games, a kids’ play area, and a silent auction.
3 Taste of Lawrence 2019
Hosted by Wexford Heights BIA along Lawrence Avenue, this three-day food festival is Scarborough’s largest street festival, taking place this year from July 5 to 7. With enticing flavours from every cultural community in the GTA, it’s recommended you arrive on an empty stomach.
4 The Guild Alive with Culture Arts Festival
Featuring artists, artisan vendors, live performances, a beer garden and children’s activities, the Guild Alive with Culture Arts Festival is a fun outdoor event, rain or shine. Located in Scarborough’s Guild Park and Gardens from July 27 to 28, admission is free and the whole family is welcome.
5 Scarborough Rib Fest
Located less than 10 minutes from Gold Seal’s Parkway Manor apartments, this Scarborough festival is a meat lover’s paradise. From August 2 to 5, some of North America’s top ‘ribbers’ will fire up their BBQs at Thomson Memorial Park, each competing for best ribs, best sauce, and best chicken. And the best part? You can try as many ribs as you want. In addition to ribs, beer, and cider, this family friendly event will also feature live entertainment.
6 Tamil Fest
Tamil Fest draws thousands of people from all across North America who are looking to experience traditional and modern Tamil culture through food and live entertainment. Located at Turbina Avenue and Markham Road from August 24 to 25, this Scarborough event is so popular, carpooling or public transportation is highly recommended.
7 Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest
Celebrate the diversity of African and Caribbean cultures through live music, arts, dance, and cuisine at the Afro-Carib Fest. Located just 15 minutes from Gold Seal’s Parkway Manor apartments, this free fun-filled weekend of event takes place August 24 to 25 at Albert Campbell Square in Scarborough.
